이전에 take note, 까지만 보고 ‘필기해라’라고 이해하고 번역했었다.

아주 적합한 상황도 아니었지만, 또 아주 어색하지도 않아서 두 번 생각하지 않았는데 아니었다.

이 표현으로 전치사의 중요성을 한 번 더 깨달았다.

take note of (something)

‘주의를 기울여라, 집중해라’의 의미다.

 

- 눈 크게 뜨고 집중해주세요

- 정신 똑바로 차리고 집중하세요

- 눈을 떼지 마세요

- 귀 기울여 집중하세요

유사해보이지만 사실 조금 다른 의미를 갖는 표현이다.

'take note of something' 주의를 기울여 '인식'하는 데에 초점을 두고 있다면

'focus on something'은 어떤 것에 '노력'을 집중하는 의미를 담고 있다.
